- PAVILION -
The Concept of null²
"null²" is a pavilion produced by media artist Yoichi Ochiai with the theme "Forging Lives." Designed as an interactive structure unprecedented in human history, it digitalizes visitors' bodies, allowing them to engage in dialogue with "Mirrored Body®" that organically transforms inside the pavilion.
In computer programming, "null" signifies a state where "there is no value." In this pavilion "null²," this "nothingness" is reinterpreted as "a space where new value can emerge," proposing a new view of life between material and information, real and virtual. By experiencing "Digital Nature," where nature and artifacts, physical bodies and information space merge, visitors will gain new self-awareness and perspectives on life.
"null²" reinvents the conventional concept of mirrors, offering visitors an unprecedented experience of "encountering oneself."

Dynamic Exterior
The exterior of the pavilion is composed of dynamic mirror-like materials that constantly transform while reflecting the surrounding environment and visitors themselves. The building breathes like a living organism and responds to its environment, providing a new spatial experience that transcends conventional architectural concepts.

Dialogue with Mirrored Body
Inside the pavilion, "Mirrored Body®" generated from visitors' scan data operates autonomously, behaving as if it has its own will while being a reflection of oneself. Through this unique dialogue with oneself, visitors are provided with an opportunity to deeply consider the essence of life and self-awareness.

Infinite Reflection Space
The interior space, composed of mirror-like LEDs on the ceiling and floor, creates an infinitely expanding reflective world. In this space where visual infinity and physical finiteness intersect, visitors can renew their perception of time and space, and deepen their thoughts on the relationship between self and universe.

Tea Room
In the "Tea Room" installed outside the pavilion, representative works of Yoichi Ochiai are exhibited. In this space where tradition and innovation merge, visitors can experience a new form of tea ceremony enhanced by digital technology.
Virtual EXPO - Experience null² Online

"We have established a 'Virtual Pavilion' where you can experience the concept of null² at the 'Virtual Expo,' which is being held in parallel with Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. While wandering through a chaotic space enveloped in fluid, organic imagery and engaging with the digital archive of the real null² in Osaka's Yumeshima, not only those who cannot visit the actual Expo, but also those who have visited the real null², will be able to feel more strongly and more intimately the world of 'computational nature' where virtual and real will merge and unify in the near future. Visitors are being distributed special avatar costumes that embody the pavilion's theme: 'Designing Future Life,' allowing full-body Null-ification. We invite you to experience the World of Null."
